Q&A

Please tell our readers a little about yourself.

My name is Rachel. I grew up in Ohio, but moved to Colorado a few years ago for the mountains! I've been writing since high school, but it wasn't until over a year ago that I decided to pursue it as a career. I now write creatively and professionally full time!

I just released my debut poetry collection, Play On Words! You can find it at amzn.to/2AEpQDx and it will be in bookstores soon!

Could you tell us a bit about your book and why it is a must-read?

A lot of poets put their work out into the world in an anthology. While this is a great way to share one's poetry, I wanted to do something different. Rather than releasing a collection of my work, I've chosen a theme we can all relate to. My collection of poetry is based on idioms and explores their meanings, implications, and use.

What inspired you to write your book?

The desire to write relatable poetry through a different lens. I want to relate to readers, and for them to feel some of the things I felt during the writing process.

What was the most challenging aspect of writing your book?

Putting a piece of yourself out into the world isn't easy. As a young writer, grappling with that can seem overwhelming. In writing this book, I was able to work through all of these emotions.

Do you have any unique or quirky writing habits?

I write everywhere. For me, it isn't a process that ever really stops or pauses.

How did you come up with the title for your book?

Play On Words is an idiom! It fit perfectly based on what I'm trying to accomplish with this work.

Is there a message you want your readers to take away from your book?

I want readers to enjoy the work, but also analyze their emotions when reading it. This work should strike a cord within everyone.

Do you have any advice for the yet-to-be-published writers reading this?

Keep writing. Have fun with it, connect with your audience, and work hard to refine your craft.

What are you working on now?

Right now, I'm celebrating the release of this collection. I'm also working on applications of Master's programs in Creative Writing. I am so excited to get better at the thing I love to do!

What is your preferred method to have readers get in touch with or follow you?
