Author interview "Nikei S. Salas"

March 2, 2017

Meet Nikei S. Salas, author of “Black Girl Gone Guru- an inspirational book for all ages, cultures and genders. A woman who knows a transformed life is more than imaginable but it can be reality. In her book, she writes about being a young mother caring for children with no support, divorce, financial setbacks and other hardships she dealt with alone.  She shares her experiences to empower others to throw away being a victim of the past and use those circumstances as life lessons. That is exactly what Nikei S. Salas represents in her life. She loves to speak over the world, travel and promote humanitarianism not only for herself but to display a better life is possible when we let go of pain.  Her mantra, “Be a light and love your life!” Live your purpose as you live your life to the ultimate fullest.

Please introduce yourself to our readers. Tell us a little about yourself, perhaps something many people don't already know.

I am Nikei S Salas, author of Black Girl Gone Guru. I am a licensed nurse who decided to leave my nursing career to become a writer and entrepreneur. I began writing when I was 9 years old and won my first writing contest at 10 years old.  The principal didn’t believe I wrote the paper because he said it was beautifully written.

Black Girl Gone Guru covers some very sensitive topics. Can you tell us a bit about the book?

The book is a memoir to enlighten others to be victorious of the past.

How did you come up with the title?

I came up with the title after a period of stillness/meditation. I thought of my transformation from girl to woman, the direction my life took when I decided to move on from hardships and how I decided to look at my past as teachings. Hence the word Guru meaning spiritual teacher.

What was the hardest part about writing this book?

The hardest part was making time to write at first. Once I made time it flowed.

If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your book? Why or why not?

I would not change anything from my book because it is my truth. Standing in my truth became healing for me and for others who read my book.

Tell us about your journey to publication, why did you go the self-publishing route?

I decided on self publishing because I did not want to wait to see if a publishing company picked my book. The decision to publish this book had already picked me so I went from my gut and did not hesitate to do it myself.

What important messages or lessons do you hope readers will take away from Black Girl Gone Guru?

I hope readers of Black Girl Gone Guru use my stories for inspiration. I wish my readers to choose to not give up after reading of some of the situations I have been thru and overcame.

What can we expect from you in the near future?

Definitely more books to come in the future.
